What Does God Want Me To Do?

Matthew 22:36 NIV

36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment of the Law?”

If we stop to wonder what makes Jesus the happiest, what He would love to see us doing with our lives, I think love would be the simplest answer. Jesus heavily pushed on His disciples how important love is in this world. In fact, it is the most important thing. The number one commandment is to love our God, and a close second, is to love those around us.

Matthew 22:37-40 says… Jesus replied: “’Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

Read that last line again.

All the Law and the prophets hang on these two commandments.

Without love, we cannot fulfill any commandments the Lord has asked of us, but with love, then we could meet the rest of the commandments. Wow! When we are wondering what God wants us to do, it may actually be simpler than we are making it. It might give us a new perspective if we strip the situation down and look at it with this question: “what would show the love of God the most in this situation?”

Closing Thoughts:

I have read the book Imagine Heaven, which tells about near death experiences. A common thread through most of them were that they were asked by God what they have done with their lives to show His love. I’m not sure what any of you make of NDEs (near death experiences) but the Bible does tell us there will be a judgment day. So, what if one day, on the other side, we are asked what we did to show His love. What will your life show?

1 Corinthians 13:13 NIV

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
