š·These positive emotions produce healthful chemical by-products that are life-giving. Even in prison the apostle Paul radiated a thankful spirit. He knew that God, who is always in control, would strengthen him to cope. Hereās an eternal truth that the apostle shares with us from a Roman prison. Philippians 4:13. āI can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.ā As a prisoner in Rome, Paul had lost his reputation. His enemies maligned his character. He lost his freedom. He was confined to a Roman cell or place under house arrest. His health was failing. Throughout his ministry, he was stoned. He was fiercely beaten. He walked for miles with a little food. He experienced shipwreck. He battled a raging storm for survival for three days. He was often near death. Still, in all of lifeās experiences, the apostle's faith was strong. His faith kept growing in the tough times. The almighty power of the living God strengthens him.ā
Godās power is more than adequate for all of lifeās tragedies and we can always find something to be incredibly thankful for. Through the power of the Almighty Son of God who strengthens and empowers and delivers us we can face Satanās assaults and all his attacks. When we are strengthened by Godās Spirit we too can have thankful hearts in difficult times and say with Paul: 1)God is in control. 2) God will strengthen me to cope. 3)God will supply all my needs. He knows our needs and is committed all the resources of heaven to meeting them. 1 Thessalonians 5:16,17.
āRejoice always, and in everything give thanks.ā
We have much to be thankful for.
