John 8:12
"I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life."
Jesus spoke of Himself as being the Light of the world and the leaders of that time did not believe Him. They were blind to His light because they loved darkness. While they were challenging His words, Jesus answered them, "Even if I testify about Myslef, My testimony is true, for I know where I came from and where I am going; but you do not know where I come from or where I am going." John 8:14
Is there something that keeps us from experiencing the fullness of Christ in our lives? Do we believe that Jesus is all that He says He is? He describes Himself as being many things; He is "the Way, the Truth, the Life, He claims that no one can come to the Father except through Him." John 14:6
These are bold ascertains that cause us to consider their implications; do we believe that Jesus is the Light of the World, that He is the Way to our Heavenly Father, as He claims? Before the New Testament was written we are given references to the light of Christ in Exodus 11:21-23, "Then the Lord said to Moses, 21'Stretch out your hand toward the sky, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, even a darkness which can be felt. 22So Moses stretched out his hand toward the sky, and there was thick darkness in all the land of Egypt for three days. 23They did not see one another, nor did anyone rise from his place for three days, but all the sons of Israel had light in their dwellings."
When God worked through Moses to deliver His people from oppression, He caused many plagues so that Pharoah would let His people go. Even in the greatest darkness, the light of Christ shown in the homes of God's chosen people, keeping them from stumbling and from losing hope.
Closing Thoughts:
Jesus is the light of the world, keeping us from losing hope when darkness closes in. Isaiah 60:1-2 tells us to 1"Arise, shine; for your light has come, And the glory of the Lord has risen upon you. 2 For behold, darkness will cover the earth and deep darkness the peoples; But the Lord will rise upon you and His glory will appear upon you."
John 12:35-36
"For a little while longer the Light is among you. Walk while you have the Light, so that darkness will not overtake you; he who walks in the darkness does not know where he goes. 36While you have the Light, believe in the Light, so that you may become sons of the Light."
