Something to Consider

Isaiah 28:16

Therefore thus says the Lord God: "Behold, I lay in Zion a stone for a foundation, a tried stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation; whoever believes will not act hastily.

Acting hastily...that is often my mode of operandi, sometimes it's effective. Depending on the situation, quick action is paramount to life or death, an emergency often requires decisive thinking and acting, no time for deliberation. However, it is most effective when there is a tremendous amount of training and preparation that precedes an emergency event, allowing us to draw from what we have learned.

When Jesus entered the region of Caesarea Philippi and asked His disciples "who do men say that I, the Son of man, am? Matt 16:13 There were lots of opinions shared, but no one really knew what to say. The bible tells us that Simon Peter was the only disciple who answered; he blurted out, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."

Jesus responded to him by saying, "blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven." Matt 16:17 Jesus explained to Simon Peter that he had received this knowledge from God Himself, this was not knowledge that he learned from the opinions of others.

God revealed the truth about who Jesus is to Simon Peter just like He reveals the truth to us about who Jesus is. We can learn about Jesus from a variety of methods, but ultimately, God reveals Him to us. Jesus said, "My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all: no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand. I and the Father are one." John 10: 29-30

The revelation of Jesus often comes from a hungry heart, Peter had a hunger for Jesus. He took risks and acted hastily at times. God rewarded Peter's heart for Jesus by stating, "On this rock, I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." Matt 16:18

Closing Thoughts

Do we have a hunger for Jesus like Peter's? Are we willing to take risks that can sometimes make us look foolish to others? When God sees our hearts on fire for Jesus, He reveals things to us that we would not otherwise know. Are we listening, seeking, and desiring what our Lord and Savior has to offer us? There is so much He wants to reveal to our hungry hearts.

Open my eyes to your heart Lord, I want to see you.

1 Corinthians 3:11

"There is no other foundation that I will lay in my life except that which has been laid, which is Jesus Christ."
