The Sunday Fade

1 Corinthians 15:58 (NKJV)

58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.

I remember from this time of year through to Christmas day circling wish books, begging for this or that, trying to behave myself until at least December 26th. The excitement seemingly multiplying by the day. Are my parents going to go with the Sega or Nintendo? Is there going to be an influx in spendable cash? These questions kept me up at night as I imagined my Christmas day bounty. Then I would get that one thing I really wanted, and by the end of vacation week, it was just another toy. Sadly, we can be like this with our faith.

The Joy Of Sunday

Hebrews 10:23–25 reminds us… (23) Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. (24) And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, (25) not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.

Why do we feel such joy as we leave church on Sundays? Because we should be lifting each other up, we should stir up love in each other, we should leave church filled with love, grace, mercy, and more importantly… the Spirit! Should we have joy on Sunday? Absolutely!

Here Comes The Fade

2 Corinthians 11:3 warns us… (3) But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ… As soon as you close the church doors behind you, the enemy starts planting his seeds, not of hope and joy, but that of despair. We leave church on Sunday thinking nothing can separate us from our great and awesome God, only to make it to about Monday afternoon before the fade begins. But, it does not have to be like that.

He Is The Answer

Galatians 6:8 offers the following… (8) For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life… If we allow ourselves to start sowing to the flesh on Monday morning, it is no wonder why we start to fade Monday afternoon! Instead, sow to the Spirit, and we will reap that which is of God. How do we sow to the Spirit? Get into scripture, earnestly pray to the Father, pour into others, and in everything we do, we should be making God the center of the whole week instead of just Sunday. A life completely dedicated to Him allows us to avoid the Sunday fade.

Closing Thoughts:

When we allow the world to creep into our Monday, our Tuesday does not look so promising. If we allow our Sunday to creep into the rest of the week, our walk with our Lord will look a whole lot more hopeful!
