Trust Like A Child

Luke 18:17 (NKJV)

17 Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it.”

Have you ever stopped to watch children with their parents? I mean, not in a creepy, just in general. I was driving down the road the other day with my son and he was reading something on his phone. I may or may not have been paying the best attention to my driving and hit the rumble strip. It scared me a little, but he was unfazed. I have never once given him reason to doubt my driving ability so he trusts that I am not going to crash, he absolutely trusts me. Look at the father that throws his child high into the air and then catches them as they descend, the child laughs and asks for more. That father clearly has always managed to catch the child, so, the child has no fear of falling. Once again, we see a trust has been formed. Of course, there are numerous examples of trust between child and parent. The question is… do we trust our heavenly Father as much as that child being thrown up into the the air?

Lean Not On Your Own Understanding

Proverbs 3:5 tells us… (5) Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding… If we look at the example we just spoke about, we can see that the child is not leaning on their own understanding. As the child is thrust into the air, there is no thought of failure, there is no wonder what may or may not happen, there is trust and trust alone. As followers of Christ, we can say and do all the right things, but do we actually trust Him enough to lean on His understanding instead of ours?

Why Trust?

Romans 8:28 promises… (28) And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose… We tend to see our circumstances through a very narrow scope, God on the other hand knows the beginning from the end, and everything in between. If we truly believe that, it becomes insensible to do anything other than trust Him.

His Promises Are For Today

The promise made in Jeremiah 29:11… still rings true today… (11) For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope… If we trust Him, if we trust that He knows the beginning from the end, if He has never failed us, how can we not find exceeding hope in Jeremiah 29:11?

No Need For Worry

God is always going to catch us, no matter how far up in the air life may feel sometimes. Matthew 6:25 sets the proper perspective we should have regarding the trusting in the Lord and His plans… (25) “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?

Closing Thoughts:

We can live with assurance that the Lord will protect and guide our way through this life. Each and every day we spend with Him should further solidify our trust in Him.

Joshua 1:9 (NKJV)

9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
