Who Do You Belong To?

Psalm 121:8 (NKJV)

8 The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in

From this time forth, and even forevermore.

We do not often think about belonging to someone or something, but at the end of the day, we all belong to either. I belong to my wife, I would never do anything to break that bond. I belong to the company I work for and would not do anything to jeopardize my future there. There are negative things we can belong to as well. Addiction to narcotics can own your every thought and action. Money can pull you into its authority. Likewise, success and fame can control and manipulate you. The problem with all of these things is that any of them can and will fail us. Marriages can fall apart, jobs can dissipate, drugs will destroy, money can dwindle, and fame will eventually fade away. The One that does not fail us is God and God alone.

He Protects Us

2 Thessalonians 3:3 promises us… (3) But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one… You could stop this verse at “the Lord is faithful” and I would be forever thankful for that statement. Amazingly, the verse goes on to say so much more! The Lord will establish us, giving us His strength. Not only does He provide us with His strength, He promises to guard us against the evil one.

He Is There When We Need Him Most

I love how Psalm 12:5 describes the Lord’s care for us… (5) “For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, Now I will arise,” says the LORD; “I will set him in the safety for which he yearns.” He hears, listens, and they reacts to our plead for help. Giving us exactly what we need at the very time we need it. How loving a God we serve!

During Affliction, He Delivers Us

We may belong to the Lord, but as Psalm 34:19 promises, we will still face affliction… (19) Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the LORD delivers him out of them all… The difference is that He promises to deliver us from that affliction. This is so true, is it not? I have always grown through any trials and affliction I have faced. Why? Because He, Himself delivers us from the affliction.

I Belong To The Lord

What an amazing statement in Romans 14:8… (8) For if we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s… That is exactly how I want to live my life, completely dedicated to the Lord. If I live, I want to live in His commandments, His grace, His mercy. If I die, I want to die in His commandments, His grace, His mercy. There is nobody, nor any thing I would rather belong to.

Closing Thoughts:

The Lord protects our going out and coming in, why would you want to belong to anyone else?

Galatians 2:20 (NKJV)

20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
