Philippians 2:3 ESV
3 Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.
Christmas season is a great time to meditate on this scripture that Paul the Apostle wrote. Part of being a Christian means to think of others above ourselves. Sometimes this is a hard thing to remember when we mindlessly go about our day and don’t consciously think of the people surrounding us.
Paul also writes in 1 Corinthians 10:24, “Let no one seek his own good, but the good of his neighbor.” Wow, what a statement! What would your day look like if you constantly sought the goodness of others and not just yourself? I know mine would probably look a bit different. To reiterate the point, he writes again… “Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.” (Philippians 2:4 ESV). This requires us to have empathy for others; to be able to understand what the interests of others might be and what they may need. As Christians, we must think of those around us. He really wants to drive this point home!
Closing Thoughts:
This Christmas season, let us keep our eyes on the people around us. In what way can we bless them and, as Paul has said, count them as more significant than ourselves?
Romans 12:10 ESV

1 John 4:7-8 ESV
7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.
